Article: Faith of our Fathers

Newry Cathedral News

It was refreshing last week to see someone one in a key leadership position bear witness to their faith and say how it had sustained them in times of trial. President Joe Biden was moved to tears last Friday during a stop at Knock shrine when he discovered that a chaplain there had performed last rites for his late son Beau Biden. “It was incredible to see him,” Biden said. “It seemed like a sign.”

When one of the most prominent leaders in the world is not afraid to express his faith and embraces the faith of his ancestors, it makes you stop and consider the importance of having faith and showing others that you have it too.

Faith Helps You Move Forward in Difficult Times

People who have faith also have hope, and hope will help you endure difficult times and uncertainties in life. Even when you lose a loved one or don’t get that job, having faith means releasing control to a greater power, the universe or God. You know that you are never alone. As it says in Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you.”

Faith also helps you see the positive aspects of all these things. When you focus on the positive things, you can deal with problems more confidently. Because of faith, you can be more joyful, hopeful, motivated, and always ready to take on challenges and welcome new paths in your life.

Faith Gives You Courage

Faith can give you courage to face challenges and remain calm and positive in spite of criticism. Others will take inspiration from your strong faith and be motivated to follow your lead. As it says in 1 Corinthians 16:13, “Stand firm in faith, be courageous and strong.”

It doesn’t mean that you are always on the right path as we are all human and sometimes falter. Faith gives you the courage to get up again, ask for forgiveness and move on. Courage comes directly from faith and can play a significant role in motivating you to act on something despite the risks or dangers involved. It also gives you strength in times of pain or grief.

Faith Helps You Discover Purpose

Faith can give you purpose and guide you on the right path in life. It sets you free and can help you find your purpose, even if it takes time. Trusting in God can provide direction and guidance, leading you to share your purpose with others. As it says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you hope and a future.”

So have faith in the higher power of God and do not be afraid to show it. When your faith is genuine and strong, it can inspire others and can make a difference in their lives.
Do not to be afraid of showing your faith, ‘as the Father sent me, So I am sending you’. John 20:21. Your faith will surely set others free.
