“The Lord is alive in Newry Parish and He will remain alive.”

Canon Francis Brown at the conclusion of the Easter Vigil

The number of people deciding to join us in the cathedral for the Holy Week services considerably increased on recent years, especially for The Lord’s Supper (Holy Thursday evening), The Lord’s Passion (Good Friday evening) and the Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday evening). Our thanks to all who attended and to all who helped make these services so special.

Palm Sunday – Blessing of Palms

Father Carlos and Deacon Francesco blessed palms in the cathedral garden before the twelve noon Mass on Palm Sunday. Volunteers have been working very hard to renovate the garden during the last twelve months. This was the first opportunity for parishioners to see the fruits of their labour up close.

The Chrism Mass

Archbishop Eamon Martin celebrated the Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday morning with the priests, deacons and religious of Dromore. During the service, he blessed the three holy oils that will be used for the administration of the sacraments during the next year. St Colman’s College provided the music.

The Lord’s Supper

Fr Carlos celebrated the Mass of The Lord’s Supper on Thursday evening. During the service, seven parishioners had their feet washed by Fr Carols, in commemoration of the actions of Jesus during the last supper.

The Easter Vigil

Canon Francis Brown celebrated the Easter vigil at 9pm on Holy Saturday. We welcomed to our family of faith Tyrell and Shannon who were Baptised and Confirmed, and Andruis and Emma who were Confirmed.
