The Knights of St. Columbanus will accompany the relic of Venerable Matt Talbot to the Cathedral on Friday 25th April.
This event will go ahead during the period of mourning for Pope Francis in recognition of the late Holy Father’s affinity with people who struggle with addiction.
The relic will arrive before the 10.30am Mass and will remain in the Cathedral until 2.00pm.
Though he has not yet been formaly recognised as a saint, he has been declared Venerable and is considered a patron of those struggling with alcoholism. His life would have gone unnoticed were it not for the cords and chains discovered on his body when he died suddenly on a Dublin Street in1925. He was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis.
