24 Hour Vigil

A Vigil of Prayer will be held for Gaza in the Cathedral this weekend. It will begin with the Vigil Mass this evening, Saturday 23rd August, and end with the 5.30pm Mass on Sunday 24th. The cathedral will be open for continuous prayer during that period. It is hoped that the groups in the parish will come and pray for an hour so that there will be a presence in the Cathedral at all times.

Prayer Walk

On Sunday 24th August, there will be an opportunity to walk and pray. Pray at the 12 noon Mass. At this Mass a candle will be lit and a group representing Newry Parish will make their way to St. Mary’s Church.

On arrival at St. Mary’s Church, they will pray in silence for one minute remembering all those people who have died through conflict and war. The group will enter St. Mary’s Church and others are welcome to join them to pray the Rosary at 1.30pm for world peace and justice.

At 2.15pm the group will leave St. Mary’s Church and walk to St. Brigid’s Church. As they enter the gates of St. Brigid’s Church the group will pick up a Cross. Others are invited to join the group for the Stations of the Cross in St. Brigid’s Church for world peace and justice.

After the Stations of the Cross, the group will stop at the garden in front of the Dominican Church at 4.00pm for prayer.

The group will make their way back to the Cathedral. Others are invited to join the group at 4.30pm in the Cathedral. The candle the group was carrying will be lit at the main entrance of the Cathedral and carried in procession to the Altar. Mass will be celebrated at 5.30pm for world peace and justice
We ask all parishioners to spend some time on Sunday afternoon in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament to pray for peace in the Middle East.
